Farm Updates

It has been awhile since I have posted, but it's not because I have been slacking.  We have been busy on the farm getting ready for the wedding, and also stocking up for winter. For those of you who didn't know, Brandon and I are getting married this October. There is so much to do, and it's been quite hectic.

We have one fall kidding to look forward to.  After a false alarm several weeks ago where I was SURE that Precious was soon to go into labor, she quickly proved me wrong.  SO, it looks like Uncle is going to have his first Twin Willows babies born at the farm at the end of September.  Precious is getting a nice udder and her tummy is widening by the day.  She is already a big girl when she is not pregnant, but one look at her and all you can say is WOW!  The babies are doing somersaults inside her.  They are extremely active and anxious to see the world, I am sure.

We have added some new babies to the farm recently.  We bought six straight run peachicks, and it looks like we ended up with two hens and four roosters.  The following day, our very last adult guinea hen hatched 14 of 17 eggs.  Of the 14 only one is pearl grey and the rest are whites, porcelains and lavenders. The peachicks and guineas are doing GREAT together in their new huge brooder.  So far, no casualties whatsoever.

We are planning on going to Hoosier Rutfest in Washington, Indiana on September 22nd.  We are taking Uncle, Ace, Mischief and Ante.  Ante and Ace are still available, so if you would like to come take a look at them let me know.  We also still have three wethers available.   As always, if you would like to come visit the farm, just let us know, and we will gladly show you around anytime.  We love visitors!!
Until next time, happy farming.

Who wants MORE?

So as I'm looking at our website statistics this morning, and having an analytical nature about me, I started thinking about all of the visitors who come and visit us here.

Here are some observations about the past 30 days:

Over 3500 unique visitors
Average =116.76 visitors per day

Over 4900 page views
Average = 1.41 page views per person

People who have sent correspondence or called during same time period= 2

Something definitely isn't adding up, so it got me to thinking that maybe the content of the site is lacking in some way.  I really want to find out what that is, so if you please, take a second and let me know your thoughts by participating in the following survey.  Your input is greatly appreciated, and will impact further developments to this site. All submissions are completely confidential.

    Please tell us how we can make this site better.

EasyKeeper Herd Management

I would like to make an official endorsement of Easy Keeper Herd Management system.  The application was developed by goat breeders FOR goat breeders.  I have been using the system for about a month and a half, and I just love it.  The interface is very simple to use, and adding a goat to your herd is as easy as typing in their name and it automatically searches registries and fills in relevant information.  Easy Keeper is constantly updating their software, and adding enhancements, plus the web-based platform makes herd information accessible from anywhere. Just wanted to pass along a great product to other goat breeders who might be looking for a management system.  If interested, visit www.easykeeper.net for a free 30-day trial.
