Precious delivered quads last night on day 127, three does and a buck. They were all dead. It is heartbreaking to hear Precious cry for her babies, and I feel so so bad that I wasn't even there with her. It was just so unexpected. Two of the babies looked almost fully developed, but no teeth, and very small. The other two didn't even have hair yet. A friend of mine thinks that the two smaller babies died in utero, killing the other two and causing the abortion. These were our very first babies for our farm, and we are so very sad. The only good thing is that Precious seems to be fine. She is eating well and acting normal, almost relieved to be free of all the weight. But she is grieving, and that makes our hearts hurt. I milked her out last night but there was not enough to milk her this morning. We all decided last night that we just move on and look forward to the next babies. It is a long wait until Trixie is due April 1st. I so hope that the next time is a happy ending. =(
